PTA: Advocates for Children

Fourth District PTA LogoThe Anaheim Union High School District benefits from a strong partnership with the PTA, the largest volunteer, child-advocacy association in the nation, and the critical link between parents and educators.

Since the PTA’s founding in 1897 as the National Congress of Mothers, the group has been a powerful voice for children. Without the PTA, there would be no kindergarten classes, no child labor laws, no public health service, no federal lunch programs, no juvenile justice system, and no mandatory immunizations. While the causes have changed through the years, the commitment of PTA members has not wavered. PTA members volunteer an average of 40,000 hours of service annually to our schools.

The Anaheim Secondary Council PTA and its governing body serve the AUHSD. PTA units and their presidents, in turn, serve our campuses. The council and its units fall under the umbrella of the Fourth District PTA, encompassing 21 councils that represent all Orange County PTA members. The mission of the Fourth District PTA is to “empower councils, units, families and community members to become effective advocates for all children and youth.”

All members of the Fourth District PTA http://www.fourthdistrictpta.org belong to the California State PTA http://www.capta.org and the National PTA http://www.pta.org.

The PTA’s strength is in its members. Becoming a PTA member opens up leadership opportunities, and builds skills in communication and advocacy strategies. The primary reason for developing PTA membership is to build an informed team that speaks together with a common concern on the issues. Please contact Anaheim Secondary Council President Leah Winter cpanaheimsec@fourthdistrictpta.org with questions, or to learn about volunteer opportunities.
