Cambridge Virtual Academy
Wellness & Relaxation Space

At Cambridge Virtual Academy, we believe student success starts with well-being. This space is designed to help students pause, reset, and build healthy habits that support learning—both online and offline.

How Wellness Tools Support CVA Students

  • Improved focus & learning: Relaxation and breathing exercises help students regulate stress and improve concentration during virtual classes.
  • Emotional balance: Mindfulness tools support students in managing anxiety, motivation, and emotional ups and downs.
  • Healthy routines: Simple habits like sleep, movement, and hydration strengthen academic consistency.
  • Self‑advocacy: Students learn when and how to seek support—an essential life and college‑ready skill.
  • Whole‑child support: Wellness practices reinforce CVA's commitment to social‑emotional learning (SEL).

Virtual Calming Room Relax & Reset

This virtual calming room is a safe, quiet space students can use anytime they need to slow down, refocus, or manage stress during the school day.

  • Breathing Reset: Inhale for 4, exhale for 6 (repeat 5 times).
  • Body Check‑In: Relax shoulders, unclench jaw, rest hands.
  • Grounding: Notice one thing you can see, hear, and feel.

Guided Breathing

General Steps for Guided Breathing

  1. Get Comfortable: Sit or lie down in a relaxed position, feeling your body grounded.
  2. Initial Focus: Take a few normal breaths, then gently close your eyes or soften your gaze.
  3. Choose a Pattern: Select a rhythmic pattern, such as:
    • Box Breathing (4-4-4-4): Inhale (4 counts), Hold (4 counts), Exhale (4 counts), Hold (4 counts).
    • 4-7-8 Breathing: Inhale (4 counts), Hold (7 counts), Exhale (8 counts).
    • Deep Belly Breathing: Inhale deeply through your nose, feeling your belly expand, then exhale slowly through your mouth, letting tension release.
