COVID-19 Update: Graduation Ceremonies Follow-Up

Dear Class of 2020 Graduates and Families,
Given the current challenges that are affecting all of our lives, celebrating and recognizing the Class of 2020 is as important as ever. As previously mentioned, the Anaheim Union High School District will honor the Class of 2020 graduates at the end of the school year by celebrating their accomplishments in a personalized virtual graduation on Saturday, May 30.

What is a virtual graduation?

  • Each school will live stream their graduation via our AUHSD YouTube channel on Saturday, May 30th at a time to be announced later.
  • Each graduate can create a video clip with their own personalized message available for sharing across social media with family and friends.
  • Each school will have a landing page where students can view graduation speeches and see their classmates’ individualized slides/videos.

What do you need to do?

  • Seniors will be contacted via their AUHSD Gmail account in the next few days so they can submit photos and videos for this special event.
  • Students are encouraged to wear their cap and gown in photos and videos submitted, and schools will be contacting students to schedule a cap and gown pickup at each site.
  • If you have not already done so, subscribe to our YouTube channel at AUHSD Communications to be notified when your school’s live stream will be available.
  • Please feel free to share this information with friends and family so they can view the live stream and share in the celebration wherever they may be.

Please be sure to note all deadlines that will be provided by each site so you/your graduate is not left out of this special event.

Unlimited-You-Grad-HatImportant COVID-19 Updates from AUHSD: 4/20 (12:00PM)

Due to state and local prohibitions on large gatherings, the Anaheim Union High School District is unable to hold traditional in-person graduation ceremonies in May. While we know how deeply disappointing this is to the Class of 2020 and their families, our top priority is the safety and security of our students, staff, and community.

We remain open to in-person graduation celebrations for 2020 graduates at a later date as determined by future COVID-19 guidelines, but in recognition of current circumstances, the Anaheim Union High School District is going above and beyond for our families to honor Class of 2020 graduates at the end of the school year by celebrating their accomplishments in a personalized virtual graduation on Saturday, May 30. This experience allows for speeches to still happen, graduates to be individually recognized, and positive memories to be made. This applies to high schools only, not junior high schools, and seniors will be contacted via their AUHSD Gmail account in the next few days with more information.

Thank you for your continued patience and partnership as we navigate through this together. We are looking forward to celebrating the Class of 2020 with all of you soon.

Unlimited-You-Grad-HatImportant Message Sent on Behalf of Superintendent Matsuda

Fifty years from now, when our students are old, when they have children and grandchildren of their own, they will look back and say, “Do you remember what happened?” I picture them pensively reflecting, staring silently, breathing deeply, perhaps tearing up, and then after reliving the experience to the very end, smiling, “Those were the times of amazing grace, when people came together with kindness and compassion to support each other, when they made sacrifices for complete strangers, when schools became beacons of hope for families who were food deprived, and when teachers transformed educational experiences through emotional connection, through affirming mental health, and through meaningful learning.”....

During this afternoon’s news conference, California Governor Gavin Newsom said he anticipated few schools, if any, would reopen before summer break. This is the first we’ve heard a statement this emphatic indicating our schools may be closed into the summer. To be clear, the District has not made any decisions at this time to close for the remainder of the school year.
