English Learner Programs

The Anaheim Union High School District English Learner and Multilingual Services (ELMS) Department is dedicated to serving the needs of Language Learners: English Learners, World Language, and Dual Language Immersion students. We are committed to providing our Language Learners research based, high quality programs for the purpose of achieving English and World Language proficiency. We are devoted to supporting parents, staff and community in their service to our Language Learners as well. Our strong efforts result in over 1,000 students, who are ready to reclassify as Fluent English Proficient each year (2017-2018 and 2018-2019 data).

Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD) and the English Learner and Multilingual Services (ELMS) Department understand in order for our students to be college, career, and life ready, have an advantage for college admittance and scholarships, and be globally competitive they will need to be proficient in English and another language. Proficiency in more than one language enhances achievement and opportunities in life. To achieve this Anaheim Union High School District offers eight different world language courses: American Sign Language, Arabic, French, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and Vietnamese. AUSHD also offers Spanish Dual Language Immersion (DLA and GLLA) and Vietnamese Dual Language Immersion (VDLIA, the first secondary Vietnamese DLI program in the United States). With this robust commitment to language AUHSD has over 1100 students earn the Seal of Biliteracy each year.

The Anaheim Union High School District English Learner and Multilingual Services  Department also facilitates the District English Language Advisory Committee (DELAC) meetings and works to support parent education efforts in collaboration with our AUHSD Family and Community Engagement Specialist Coordinator.

Of the 30,000 students in Anaheim Union High School District, approximately 6,000 are designated as English Learners. There are 54 languages spoken in Anaheim Union High School District. The top five languages spoken by English Learners and their families are: Spanish, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Korean and Arabic.
