The Anaheim Union High School District is committed to helping each and every child succeed, but we know that we cannot do the best possible job without the support of the family. The Superintendent and the Board of Trustees have made a commitment to partner with families in effort to reach a common goal. . . student success. Our district has a full time employee, Kim Bauerle who serves as our Family Involvement Specialist. It is her responsibility to help bridge the gap between home and school, to provide parents with resources, develop programs to educate parents, increase awareness.
We are proud to offer Parent Education in Spanish, English, and Korean at many of our sites. We also offer a course entitled "How to Help Your Child Succeed In School" in both English and Spanish. We have "Hot Topics Nights" that are specifically designed to address issues brought up by families in our schools. All of our programs, materials and babysitting are provided at no cost to families. In addition to our district-generated programs, there are programs for parents and families offered at each school site.
For a schedule of classes or more information, please call Kim Bauerle at 714-999-2179.
Regardless of what the program is…..PLEASE GET INVOLVED! Let's work together to provide the best possible environment for your child to succeed.
Why Family Involvement?
- Thirty years of research show that greater family involvement in children's learning is a critical link to achieving a high-quality education and a safe disciplined learning environment for every student.
- Students achieve high grades and test scores, have a better attendance, complete more homework, demonstrate positive attitudes and behavior, graduate at higher rates, and have greater enrollment in higher education.
Six Types of Family Involvement
- Parenting: Assist families with parenting and child rearing skills. Understanding child and adolescent development and setting home conditions that support children as students at each age and grade level. Assist schools in understanding families.
- Two Way Communications: Communicate with families about school programs and student progress through effective school-to-home and home-to school communications.
- Sharing Your Talent (Volunteer): Improve recruitment, training, work, and schedules to involve families as volunteer and audience members at the school or in other locations to support students and school programs.
- Learning at Home: Involve families with their children in learning activities at home, including homework and their curriculum related activities and decisions.
- Shared Decision Making: Include families as participants in school decisions, governance, and advocacy through PTA/PTO, schools councils, committees, and other parent organizations.
- Collaborating in the Community: Coordinate resources and service for families, students, and the school with businesses, agencies, and other group in the community.
Predictors of Student Achievement
Not income or social status, but the extent to which a student's family is able to:
- create a home environment that encourages learning
- express high (but not unrealistic) expectation for their children's achievement and future careers
- become involved in their children's education at school and in the community
