About Us MORE THAN A CENTURY OF SERVINGTHE STUDENTS OF OUR COMMUNITY The Anaheim Union High School District, founded in 1898, has a student population of approximately 37,000, including Adult Education. The District covers 46 square miles and stretches across the cities of Anaheim, Cypress, Buena Park, La Palma and Stanton. Our students, who speak 49 different languages in their homes, attend 21 campuses and come to us from five feeder elementary districts.
The Anaheim Union High School District is proud to have the second-highest, API-scoring school in the state in Oxford Academy. Oxford is also ranked among the Top 10 schools in the nation by Newsweek and U.S. News and World Report. Lexington Junior High School and Cypress and Western high schools are also California Distinguished Schools, while Loara High School is a proud recipient of a California Title 1 Academic Achievement Award. The district has accumulated numerous additional honors, including prestigious Golden Bell awards to Katella High School and Lexington, Brookhurst, Dale and Ball junior high schools.
Our junior and senior high school campuses have shown steady, and in some cases, dramatic improvement on state testing. Three campuses -- Oxford Academy, Cypress High School and Lexington Junior High School -- have Academic Performance Indexes above 800, which is the state standard. Additionally, Loara and Kennedy High School are home to the rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
The district also has strong Career Technical Education programs at all high school campuses that are designed to lead to meaningful post-secondary employment. We offer specialized academy programs, including two Building Industry Trade Academies, a Transportation Academy and an Education Academy. The District offers numerous ROP programs, and many of our high school campuses operate Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) programs. We also have Junior Leadership Academies – the junior high equivalent of the JROTC – at several campuses.
In addition to our Adult Education program, we also offer a wide variety of classes for parents that focus on providing them with skills to help their children succeed academically and socially. We also have a parent bus that travels the community offering literacy and other classes.
The Anaheim Union High School District takes pride in providing outstanding programs in music, art, and athletics. The Anaheim Prep Sports/Activities Foundation provides the Junior High School Intramural Athletic program and other after-school programs, with a student participation rate of more than 50 percent. We have a long and proud tradition of athletic excellence, with our boys’ and girls’ high school teams annually taking home California Interscholastic Federation championships.
The District is also the third-largest employer in the city of Anaheim.
